Jumbo Kids Theatre
Jumbo Kids Theatre
Jumbo Kids Theatre is a professional children’s theatre group founded in 1999. Since 2001 it has been a funded organisation of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, and in 2010, was presented with the Children’s Drama Promotion Award from Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies. Jumbo Kids Theatre joined the Venue Partnership Scheme with Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre in 2018, and moved to Tai Po Arts Centre in November 2019, hoping to create a theatre for children and young people in Hong Kong.
Jumbo Kids Theatre is formed by a group of educators and drama education practitioners with rich experience in performance and programme planning. With passion and perseverance, it has collaborated with different organisations to create educational theatrical performances for children, bringing critically acclaimed productions to the public through school-touring performances, family activities, varied workshops and public performances. Jumbo Kids Theatre aims to inspire and bring happiness to children, but also help the adults to rediscover their inner child through drama.
With its signature half-mask acting feature, the theatre has developed its original “Miss Toasty Series”, “Children’s Literature Series”, “Non-verbal Series”, “Object Theatre Series”, and “Early Childhood Theatre Series”. The repertoire, including 14 Town Musicians, The Snail and the Whale and Equality Game, has been toured to kindergartens, primary and secondary schools. More recent productions include Cat Story & War Guy, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe; Dot/line/plane@SuperBaby; 24 Stories; A Fantasie Journey @Xmas; and Tak’s Story.
